Grants and Subsidies for Installing Lifts in the Balearic Islands in 2026

All the grants available for installing lifts in the Balearic Islands (Mallorca, Menorca, and Ibiza) in 2026: requirements and how to apply. Contact us.

In 2026, there are three main avenues for public funding to install a lift in a residential building in the Balearic Islands: the regional accessibility grant program of the Balearic Islands Government (funded by Next Generation EU funds), the 2022-2025 State Housing Plan, and, in some cases, one-off municipal grants. Combined, these can cover between 40% and 75% of the total cost, reaching up to 100% in very specific low-income cases.

The difficult part isn't knowing they exist—they do and are funded—but rather submitting the application correctly before the allocation runs out on a first-come, first-served basis. This guide explains each grant available as of May 2026, the actual amounts, deadlines, and the most common mistakes that exclude communities that actually met the requirements.

What subsidies are available for installing lifts in the Balearic Islands in 2026?

The three active calls for applications for homeowners' associations in Mallorca, Menorca and Ibiza in 2026 are:

AidCoverageWho grants it
CAIB Accessibility Grant (Next Generation)Up to 50% of the cost, capped per dwellingDepartment of Habitatge — Balearic Government
State Housing Plan 2022-2025 (Program 6 — Accessibility)40 %–75 % of the investmentManaged by the CAIB following an agreement with the Ministry
One-off municipal aidVariable, complement to the restSome municipalities (Palma, Inca, Manacor in specific calls)

The first two are compatible in many cases, allowing percentages to be combined and achieving actual coverage of 70-80% of the total cost for communities with residents over 65 or people with disabilities. The third depends on the current year's municipal call for applications.

CAIB accessibility grant: the main route in the Balearic Islands

This is the most important regional funding opportunity for homeowners' associations. It is financed by the Recovery and Resilience Facility (PRTR / Next Generation EU) and managed by the Ministry of Housing of the Government of the Balearic Islands.

Amount: up to 50% of the investment cost, with a maximum grant per dwelling that is adjusted for each call.

Beneficiaries: homeowners' associations with their tax domicile in the Balearic Islands, in whose buildings at least one person over 65 years of age, with a recognized disability (any degree), or in a recognized situation of dependency resides. The critical criterion is that this person was registered as a resident in the building before 2020.

What it covers: new lift installation, replacement with an accessible one, removal of architectural barriers in access, lifting platforms and stairlifts.

Compatible with: other regional, state and municipal aid, provided that the total does not exceed 100% of the actual cost.

State Housing Plan 2022-2025: Accessibility Program 6

This is the other major route and is also managed by the Balearic Islands Government (CAIB) following an agreement with the Ministry of Housing and Urban Agenda. It remains in effect in 2026 with the year's budget increase.

Amount: general aid of 40 % of the investment, which increases to 75 % when any of these conditions are met:

  • The applicant owner's income is less than 3 times the IPREM.
  • The building houses people with disabilities or people over 65 years of age.
  • The building is located in a declared Urban Regeneration and Renewal Area (ARRU).

Maximum eligible cost: usually ranges between €12,000 and €15,000 per dwelling, depending on the year's call for applications.

Beneficiaries: homeowners associations, groups of associations, sole owners of residential buildings, cooperatives or public administrations.

Important: Aid is granted on a first-come, first-served basis until the budget allocated to the Balearic Islands is exhausted. Applying late, even if all requirements are met, will disqualify the community. For more details on the procedure, please review our Guide to applying for and maximizing community lift grants.

How to apply for a lift grant in the Balearic Islands step by step

  1. Agreement of the owners' association to undertake the work, recorded in the minutes and signed by the president.
  2. Technical project prepared by an architect or engineer, with professional endorsement when required by the call for applications.
  3. Fixed price quote from an authorized installation company (detailed quote by items, not an estimate).
  4. Administrative documentation: certificate of registration of the community, certificate of accounts, NIF of the community, certificate of tax domicile in the Balearic Islands.
  5. Social documentation: historical register that proves the residence prior to 2020 of the person over 65 years of age or with a disability, disability or dependency certificate if applicable.
  6. Electronic application at the CAIB electronic headquarters within the deadline of the call for the current year.
  7. Resolution and, if favorable, execution of the work within the set period (usually 12-18 months from the concession).
  8. Justification of expenses with invoices, certificates of completion of work and supporting account, within the period established by the resolution.

The stage where most communities lose funding is not the initial application, but the subsequent justification. It's advisable to keep all original invoices, certificates signed by a qualified technician, and bank statements showing payments.

Who can benefit from lift subsidies in the Balearic Islands: key requirements in 2026

To access most of the aid programs currently available in the Balearic Islands, it is important to be clear about this combination of requirements:

  • Collective residential building (minimum 3 dwellings in most calls for proposals).
  • Tax domicile of the community in the Balearic Islands and up to date with tax obligations.
  • Valid community agreement signed by the president, with outstanding fees settled to the extent required by the call.
  • Vulnerable resident registered before 2020 (over 65, person with a recognized disability or in a situation of dependency) — to access the 75 % or the CAIB accessibility grant.
  • Not having received other incompatible aid for the same work.
  • Authorized installation company registered with the competent body of the Balearic Islands.

If your community meets the first four criteria, it's almost certain to qualify for at least one of the funding opportunities. If any criteria are missing, it's worth exploring other options before ruling anything out.

What about the tax deduction for installing the lift? Can that be added to the savings?

Yes. Although not strictly a subsidy, the fee each owner pays for the lift repair may qualify them for tax deductions for accessibility improvements, both in their national income tax return and in some regional tax credits. The conditions vary depending on the owner's circumstances. We explain this with specific examples in Can I deduct the lift expenses on a case-by-case basis?.

By combining the CAIB subsidy of 50% %, the State Plan up to 75% % in specific cases, and subsequent tax deductions, the actual cost to the owner can be much lower than it seems at first glance.

When to apply and where to look for calls for lift grants in the Balearic Islands 2026

The calls for proposals are published in the BOIB (Official Gazette of the Balearic Islands) and on the CAIB's electronic portal. They usually open between February and April, and the budget is exhausted before summer. We recommend:

  • Start the documentation with the technical project and the community agreement before the call for proposals is opened.
  • Have the installer's finalized quote signed.
  • Submit the application on the first business day after opening.

By 2026, the accessibility and rehabilitation funding programs linked to Next Generation EU are confirmed with increased funding. The allocation for the Balearic Islands will be announced upon publication of the call for proposals.

Frequently asked questions about lift subsidies in the Balearic Islands

Can you apply for the grant if the work has already started?

No. The grants are always incompatible with works already started before the application date. The criteria applied by the Balearic Islands Government (CAIB) are strict: if a construction contract has already been signed or the first installer invoice has been paid, the grant is denied. Therefore, it is crucial not to sign the construction contract until the application has been submitted.

How long does it take to receive the grant once it has been awarded?

Between a favorable decision and the actual payment, 8 to 14 months typically elapse. The administration pays upon receipt of justification of expenses, meaning after the community has completed and paid for the work. This implies that the community must finance 100% of the cost during the construction phase and receive reimbursement later. Some banks offer specific bridging loans for communities that have been granted a subsidy.

What happens if my application for assistance is denied?

An appeal for reconsideration may be filed within one month of notification, or an appeal to the administrative courts may be filed within two months. The most common reasons for denial are: lack of documentation for the vulnerable resident, errors in the community certificate, or exhaustion of the budget. In the first and second cases, the denial can be rectified by submitting additional documentation within the deadline.

Does the grant also cover future lift maintenance?

No. The subsidies available in 2026 cover the initial investment (installation, construction, certification) but not subsequent maintenance costs. Maintenance is the responsibility of the community and must be contracted with an authorized company as part of the owner's legal obligations.

Can my community request assistance if the lift already exists but needs to be modernized?

Yes. Modernization and adaptation to regulations (including the mandatory adaptation required by Royal Decree 355/2024) are covered by the CAIB accessibility grant and the State Plan. If your lift is more than 20 years old or requires regulatory adaptation, it's advisable to check if your case qualifies before paying the assessment yourself.
