The grants can cover up to 40 % of the total cost, although this percentage can be increased to 75 % in certain cases: low-income households, people over 65 years of age, or people with a disability equal to or greater than 33 %.
How much can you receive?
- Up to €8,000 per home.
- Up to €14,000 if a person with a disability lives there.
- Up to €17,000 if the disability exceeds 65 % or is considered severe.
- An additional €1,000 if the building is listed as a Site of Cultural Interest.
- 25 extra % for young people under 35 years of age in municipalities with fewer than 5,000 inhabitants.
The management of these grants falls to the autonomous communities, so it's a good idea to carefully review the specific requirements in each region before starting any process.
Regional aid for the installation of stairlifts
Each autonomous community has its own helplines, which in many cases complement the state's. Here are some examples:
Andalusia
Subsidies can cover up to 40% of the cost, rising to 60% if the home includes elderly, disabled, or low-income residents. They are available for both private homes and homeowner associations.
Cantabria
In this community, aid extends to 60% of the %, and in particularly vulnerable situations, up to 75% of the %. Priority is given to those with low incomes or those who live with people with reduced mobility.
Castile-La Mancha
Here, aid ranges from €6,000 to €12,500 per home, and can reach €18,000 if a disability is certified. Coverage ranges from 60% of the total cost of the work to 80% of the total cost of the work.
Community of Madrid
One of the communities with an active call until July 28, 2025, which covers 60 % of the cost of accessibility projects (stairlifts, lifts, ramps, automation, etc.).
The limits vary depending on the type of property:
- Up to €6,000 per dwelling in multi-family buildings.
- Up to €9,000 plus €90/m² if the building has commercial premises.
- Up to €12,500 for single-family homes.
Castile and León
Grants can reach up to 50% of the total cost. The final amount depends on the type of dwelling (single-family or multi-family) and its built-up area.
Balearic Islands
The Balearic Government, through IBAVI and the Ministry of Mobility and Housing, offers assistance ranging from 40% to 75% of the total cost, depending on income level and the certified level of disability.
They can be applied for for private homes, residential communities, and even rentals where someone with reduced mobility lives. In addition, municipalities such as Palma, Inca, and Manacor are adding municipal aid to regional aid to strengthen accessibility.
Local aid in municipalities
Several city councils offer grants to support the installation of stairlifts. These are typically aimed at seniors, people with disabilities, or residential communities looking to improve building accessibility.
An example: the Fuenlabrada City Council (Madrid) has a call for applications open until September 5, 2025, with the following conditions:
- Homeowners' associations: up to 20% of the investment, with a maximum of €3,000 to €25,000.
- Individual homes: up to 75 %, with a maximum of €2,000, for people over 65 or with disabilities.
Other cities such as Barcelona, Bilbao, Malaga, and many municipalities in the Balearic Islands also have aid plans in place. In these cases, it's best to check the website of the relevant city council to see if there are any active applications.
What requirements are usually requested?
Although there may be variations depending on the administration, some requirements are usually repeated:
- Disability certificate or medical report justifying the need.
- Income below certain limits (usually linked to the IPREM).
- Be the owner, tenant or usufructuary of the property.
- Not having received incompatible aid for the same intervention.
- Submit a detailed budget and, in some cases, a technical project.
